This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including but not limited to those related to hiring, placement, promotion, discharge, layoff, recall, transfers, leave of absence, compensation and training.

Improper interference with the ability of IATSE Local 229 employees to perform their expected job duties is absolutely not tolerated. Employees also are protected against retaliation for talking about discrimination on their own initiative and when responding to questions during internal investigations.

Religious Accommodations

It is important that all applicants and employees are respected for their religious beliefs and practices. Accordingly, IATSE Local 229 will make every effort to provide reasonable accommodation for sincerely held religious beliefs. Individuals may request a reasonable accommodation verbally or in writing and such request will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Disability Accommodations

IATSE Local 229 strives to ensure that employees and applicants with disabilities who are qualified for job positions are not discriminated against, and will provide a reasonable accommodation to disabled applicants and employees if the reasonable accommodation would allow the individual to perform the essential functions of the job, unless doing so would create an undue hardship for IATSE Local 229.

Individuals may request a reasonable accommodation at any time because of a disability, verbally or in writing, to the Executive Board which should include relevant information about the need for an accommodation. If such requests cannot be granted, IATSE Local 229 may provide an alternative, effective accommodation, to the extent any reasonable accommodation can be made without imposing an undue hardship for IATSE Local 229.

Health and Safety in the Workplace

IATSE Local 229 is committed to maintaining a safe workplace. Employees must act with the utmost regard for the safety and health of their co-workers and themselves at all times and keep work areas free of any potential hazards. Unsafe conditions or potential hazards must be reported to direct supervisors immediately. Employees who experience minor accidents or become ill at work are encouraged to notify a supervisor or the Executive Board and then see a doctor, report to the nearest hospital, or return home. Supervisors will assist employees in any way possible, including aiding in making the necessary transportation arrangements. Employees who witness a major or life-threatening illness or accident should call 911 and immediately report the situation to a supervisor or an Executive Board member. Again, you must report all workplace injuries, accidents or illness to your supervisor or Executive Board as soon as possible regardless of the severity. IATSE Local 229 may issue specific safety rules or guidelines from time to time. Employees are required to comply with such rules and guidelines as well as any applicable federal, state, provincial, and local laws regarding workplace safety. Failure to follow any such requirements may result in discipline.

Anti-Retaliation

Unlawful retaliation against employees is prohibited. IATSE Local 229 strictly prohibits and does not tolerate unlawful retaliation of any kind. All forms of unlawful retaliation are prohibited, including any form of discipline, reprisal, intimidation or other form of retaliation for participating in any activity protected by law.
